Koeël by 1 heup in, by ander heup uit

Ronel Botha (47) gistermiddag by die Unitas-hospitaal in Lyttelton gesê terwyl haar man, mnr. Jan Botha (51), geopereer is.

Mnr.

THANKS AND APPRECIATION
General Information Les writes "My name is Les Rudman and I live at Irene Farm Villages.
On Saturday 06 June 2009 I was inPotchefstroom when I received a distress SMS from my wife. I was out hunting and only received the call 2 hours later.
I immediately attempted to contact her but the phone just started ringing and cut out very soon thereafter. I activated the "Look for Me" process and saw that the positionof my wifes phone remained static. I phoned neighbours and family to attempt to determine where my wife was - to no avail. Thinking that my wife may have been highjacket on her way home from a meeting, and that the phone had been thrown out of the car, I was on my way home when I asked my son in law to go and report the situation to the Pierre van Ryneveld Police Forum. Soon after doing this I received a personal call from Frans Esterhuysen to get more details and for me to provide other relevant information.
Within about 30 minutes after speaking to Frans he phoned to say that they had located the car. I then directed him to a shop where my wife could be. A few minutes later he phoned to say that she had been located. You cannot believe the relief one felt.
My wife and I visited Vodacom today and have asked them to determine how it is possible that an emergency SMS can be sent from my wife to me without her using the phone. It is also interesting to note that all 11 calls I made to her are listed as "received" calls - although she never received or heard them. She was busy with a painting class at an arts and crafts shop. When checking her phone she also noticed that she had received 33 missed calls from everyone looking for her - she had not heard the phone ring once.
The reason for this letter however is for me to formally thank the PVR Police Forum and Frans for the professional manner in which this matter was dealt with. It is good to know that an organisation exists that really cares for its people and that it is serious about the way it approached an extremely important task. Thanks once again from a very relieved Les Rudman"

The use of two way radios for effective communication
General Information marius writes "
There are a number of areas that have started using long range two way radios as a form of communication between members of the community in case of an emergency. This has drastically decreased the criminal activity as well as aided in the apprehension of many criminals.

The radios can be used to make contact with the security agencies and it has been noted that the police also listen in on the known channels. This drastically shortens the reaction times.

I would thus advice the committee to consider going in the same direction. If there is already such a system that is not mentioned on this site, will someone please inform me.

An action packed new years eve
General Information andreb writes "
On new years eve, December 31st 2008, the section of Pierre van Rynveld around Melville and Jim Verster streets was besieged by a combination of police vehicles, a police helicopter and many of the local residents when a group of armed men attempted to flee through the gardens in the vicinity.
